First, let me say that the humidor is gorgeous!
The shipping company that is used is as dysfunctional as possible. I had an alert that it sat in a warehouse 20 miles from my home for over 48 hours. Then I had an alert that it was out for delivery for another 30ish hours. I was instructed to do a thorough inspection before accepting the shipment, but instead it was just placed on my porch and "abandoned" on a rainy day. Not even a doorbell ring!
All that being said, I am pretty pleased with the humidor. It definitely has some issues. The seal is nonexistent, I ran an electric humidifier inside for days. After a few hours, the entire basement smelled like spanish cedar, showing there was a poor seal somewhere. The door does not close all the way. The door lock helps, but the remainder of a seal is created by 3 small magnets (the size of a button battery), all 3 of which popped out of their holes. I was able to re-seat the magnets, but a quick flashlight test showed that the door was 100% not sealing (meaning, I could see light coming from every single inch of the door seal).
I am in the process of installing weather stripping. At first, I tried to improve the seal by applying 1mm thick strips to the perimeter of the door seal, essentially trying to increase the door interior footprint. When that did not work, noticed the door has enough play that it can lock even though there is a gap of up to 4mm (so much for those magnets!) I started to apply strips to the face of the humidor. This seemed to work for the most part, but I only had 3mm thick strips. I have ordered different style of weather strips, ones that can be a little more flexible with gap size. This should hopefully make a more complete seal.
As of right now, the humidor is holding at 70% or so RH, but I have to refill the humidifier (Cigar Oasis Magna 3.0) with distilled water every 5 days or so. I hope that the new weather strips will allow me to refill less frequently. Otherwise, I do love this humidor. It helps me consolidate all of my smaller humidors into one cabinet, and as I said... it's great to look at. If I can't get the seal right, then this review would lose a star or two.
This humidor is exactly as advertised. It has been running for just over a week and it is outstanding. The interaction with Elegant Bar was fantastic and the FedEx delivery went exactly as schedule with no issues. The unit maintains temperature and humidity constantly. I am including a short video that allows the viewer to hear the system running when you open the door. When closed it is very quiet, but it still circulating the air in the background. On initial set up you will need 1.75 gallons of distilled water. It is very easy to fill the reservoir and the unit will beep until you add the correct amount of water. Once it senses it is filled the lighting will flash. Well worth the extra cost to upgrade to this model from lesser cost units.
The humidor is advertised as a walnut burl wood which is a rare and unique wood grain.
That is NOT what the humidor is ...Its a straight grain walnut, not as expensive as burl
Humidor is a good quality and well made. Glass was easy to install. Awesome product!
