Choosing Right Wood for Cigar Lockers or Cabinet Humidors!!!

Posted by Ben Singh on

Recently, a discussion came up with a client who was getting quotes for a big cigar locker job for a club in Houston, Texas. We as always quoted lockers with 100% Spanish Cedar wood and they got another quote for Mahogany wood with Cedar lining inside. The price difference was a lot. Our quote was considerably lower than the other company. The reason for that was not the wood but the company we are competing again as they are known for over priced products but anyways that is not the point here.

Client was very confused. Why use Spanish Cedar, why is your quote so low, why, why, why….

Well, here was my response to one of the very important questions:

Client: Why do you use all Spanish Cedar instead of Mahogany, which is what the other manufacturer is quoting? If we want Mahogany doors is that an option and would that be recommended?

Me: Everyone in the cigar industry uses Spanish Cedar, because if it's properties. It has a bitter taste and keeps bugs away, it enhances the flavor of the cigars and it helps maintain the humidity level of the humidor while the humidification is not running. Many companies don't use Spanish cedar because they don't make their doors or don't have access to it. How you know that is if you ask them to make the unit in Spanish Cedar they won't but we will make it in Spanish Cedar or Mahogany whatever you want. As a cigar aficionado we recommend Spanish cedar as the first choice.

Client: Is there any visible differences in the exterior “color” for lack of a better word for using Spanish Cedar on the doors and matching to existing wood in a bar or lounge?

Me: Spanish cedar and Mahogany are from the same family, in fact the grain is almost identical and you couldn't tell if it wasn't for the smell, it’s a little lighter when its first processed but it works great with most stain colors. If you are concerned about the final color, we can use any sample given to us and we can match it as close as possible. We can even provide a sample for approval before we do any finishing.

Great Product

I love this product.

Have not installed yet but will be soon then I will let you know!

Came as described, but a little loud & late

The good: The item came as described and is fully functional. Very easy to assemble and operate. It was packaged very nicely, protected around all corners. I am overall pleased to date with my wine fridge.

The not so good: I ordered my item and immediately received an email informing me that the item was backordered for a week. I was ok with this, but when a week had come and gone without any notification of shipping, I had to reach back out. This happened again as well when the shipping missed the second promise date. To the vendor's credit, E Bar was always quick to respond.

The not good: This unit is pretty loud. I can hear the buzzing from a floor above when we're in our bedroom. You get used to it, but that was a little disappointing and I contemplated returning the item.

All in all, I think it's a good unit with a couple hiccups. What's life without a few hiccups, though?

Noisy and Doesn’t keep constant temp

With the price tag of this wine cooler we expected better. It is noisy and it’s a constant noise sounding like it’s always running hard. Additionally it doesn’t keep a very constant temperature. I set the top section at 47 and it gets up to 52 when we haven’t opened it in days before going back down.

Great Product & Great Customer Service

The Product is excellent craftsmanship...Not damaged all in one piece. Exactly as described.

Now the customer Service has to be #1 in my opinion...They really know how to take care of their customers. If your worried about my 5 star review just give them a Call I promise you won't regret it.
